Okay, maybe they do, maybe they don’t. But, either way, they are srsly evil.

Seems that the tenants in the downstairs apartment asked NG* to PHYSICALLY LOCK the gas meter when they (finally) moved out. Why? Got me. Apparently this required an appointment and everything.

So, maybe I’m a little slow, or maybe I was at work when this happened. Either way, I had no idea. Due to the construction and general hoopla, I wasn’t exactly in the downstairs apartment ~~much~~ at all. Until last night, when I was cleaning to prepare for potential tenants stopping by** and thought “Hmm, why don’t I turn on the heat.” The heat didn’t heat. I scheduled an emergency appointment with the plumber.

This morning, I thought “It sure would suck for the plumbers*** to get here just to tell me that the gas was shut off.” So I called NG and sloooooowly they figured out what had happened.

Here’s the punchline. NG can’t send someone to turn on the gas until DECEMBER 3RD. Because it’s their busy season. What with it being cold and all. Now, I’ll survive, bundled up to clean. I’m not sleeping down there. But what if I was?? What if I moved in on Dec 1st, with my (hypothetical) 2 yr old, and called to set up the gas account, and NG said, “Sorry, see you Dec 14th, it’s our busy season. In the meantime, go buy some fleece.”

***Interestingly, when I spoke to the lady at the plumbers’ office to tell her what was up, we realized that she (and her real 2 yr old) might be looking to live in my downstairs apartment.
